The Rainhill Trials Virtual Museum celebrates the historic Rainhill Trials of 1829. The website was ceremoniously launched on the 15th January 2009 at Rainhill High School.
The web site charts the story of the dawn of the age of speed, the birth of British railways and its significance to the UK and global economy.
Using a mixture of interactive technology and video, this online resource, designed by local multimedia company Zut Media, is set to become the definitive destination for information regarding the trials - a contest which determined the future of the Liverpool to Manchester railway, (the world's first inter-city passenger railway) and heralded a new era of passenger travel that influenced industrial development across the world.
The website provides a stimulating online commemoration of the locomotive trials, providing an excellent reference tool with a personal guide, a user forum, podcasts from local experts and rail enthusiasts to keep you on track with key information about the revolutionary transportation event.
