You’ve got to laugh…

Laughter is top of the agenda as the hugely popular St.Helens Comedy Festival returns.

From Friday 22 October to Friday 29 October, new and established comedy talent will be on show as the St.Helens Comedy Festival 2010 takes centre stage at the Theatre Royal and The Citadel Arts Centre - with support from St.Helens Council.

The ‘Poet Laureate of Comedy’ John Hegley opens the festival at The Citadel with his own brand of humour and comic observation. A consistent favourite at the Edinburgh Festival, and with over half a dozen best-selling books under his belt, he’s not to be missed.

A special comedy show ‘Scousers in St.Helens’ features Tina Malone (Shameless), Margi Clarke (Coronation Street) and Billy Butler (BBC Radio Merseyside) on Tuesday 26 October at the Theatre Royal.

Radio City’s Pete Price will bring his variety show to the Theatre Royal on Wednesday 27 October - featuring Neil Fitzmorris of Phoenix Nights fame and Radio City 96.7; Leanne Campbell, 107.6 Juice FM Breakfast Show Presenter, female comedian Lindsay Germain and top Liverpool comic Mickey Finn.

Unique television comedy star Joe Pasquale will be performing at the Theatre Royal on Thursday 28 October with a unique brand of madcap humour and familiar songs delivered in Joe's own inimitable style.

‘Buzz Hawkins Does The Bradshaws’ at the Theatre Royal marks the final night of the festival. This hugely popular show will provide a wickedly funny look at the life of the Bradshaw family in their two-up two-down, terraced house in the days of tin baths, frozen jubblies and sugar butties.

Deputy Leader of St Helens Council and Cabinet Member for Culture, Communications and Town Centre Councillor Barrie Grunewald said: “Building on the success of our previous Comedy Festivals, the 2010 event is packed with big name acts and comedy events. This is great event for local residents and visitors to enjoy right here in St.Helens”.
