Beer, cider and pie festival on its way
20th September 2010
Real ale enthusiasts are in for a real treat with the return of the third St.Helens CAMRA Beer, Cider and Pie Festival.
Back by popular demand it will be held on Thursday 30th September - Saturday 2nd October at Volunteer Hall, Mill Street, St.Helens.
In the unique setting of the historic Volunteer Hall, the festival will bring together a wide range of real ales, ciders and perries. So, if you don't know your Pipe Dream from your Devon Dumpling then this is the perfect time to find out more.
Following on from the tremendous success of last year's event, the Festival has been expanded to include a wider range of drinks and local & regional foods. The three-day event is also providing entertainment including performances from Hoochie Coochie Man and The Lazy River Jazz Band.
On Friday 1st October between 2.00pm-4.00pm - Tyrers Department Store will be providing an opportunity to talk to master brewer Keith Wright of George Wright Brewery and of course sample some of his real ales including the popular Dream - named after the award winning public art sculpture aside the M62.
Tony Biggs, Chairman of St.Helens CAMRA, says: "Following the success of last year's sell-out Beer Festival we are pleased to offer the Borough another taste of real ales, ciders and perries. If you've never tried real ale before then come along and find out what you've been missing, it will be a pleasant surprise. We will have some really unusual beers on offer, live music and the introduction of local and regional foods will help to make it another great festival."
Councillor Barrie Grunewald, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Culture, Communications and Town Centre says: “We are delighted to work alongside St.Helens CAMRA for their third annual festival in the town centre. This will be a fantastic occasion welcoming visitors across the region and it shows the variety of the quality events on offer in St.Helens."
As part of the Council's Be Local Buy Local campaign catering for the event will be supplied by Pimmie's Pies, Forster Organic Meats, Tyrers Department Store, Mandy's as well some regional food producers.
