Shortlist announced for 2009 Tourism Awards

The search to find the very best of the local tourism and leisure industry has moved one step closer with the announcement of the short listed nominees for the 2009 St.Helens Tourism & Leisure Awards.

There are 12 categories in total covering the whole spectrum of the industry, from the Most Professional Bar Person to the Most Helpful Retail Assistant. The headline St.Helens Ambassador award will be handed to the individual who has displayed the most exceptional personal contribution and commitment to the local tourism industry this year.

The winners will be announced at a high profile awards ceremony, taking place on Friday January 29th 2010 at Haydock Park Racecourse. The event will once again recognise the excellence and achievements of all those businesses, organisations, and individuals who contribute so much to the Borough’s growing tourism industry.

Councillor Richard Ferry, Executive Member for Urban Regeneration at St.Helens Council added: “Last year’s tourism awards event was attended by over 280 people and was a perfect showcase for what is one of the Borough’s most important and dynamic growth sectors in terms of developing the local economy. The standard of entrants this year has been particularly high, and we are delighted to announce such strong shortlists. Judging is currently underway, and the category winners will be announced at the gala awards ceremony in January 2010”.
