The Citadel Announces New Spring / Summer Season!

The Citadel Arts Centre have announced details of their exciting new season of events and activities for Spring/Summer 2011.
On Friday 4th Feb, St.Helens very own and X Factor popular girl group ‘Husstle’ will perform at the Citadel’s under 18’s night ‘Epochalypse’ which runs right through to the summer with resident DJ Leo.
For under 18’s who are into that more of an alternative night, there is ‘Overload’ which features the best in local bands.
Iconic Liverpool 80’s pop/soul band ‘The Christians’ will make their Citadel debut and one of the UK’s best female Singer/Songwriters ‘Thea Gilmore’ will perform in June.
For lovers of something a bit alternative, the highlights include an acoustic performance by former Icicle works lead singer Ian McNabb, Nik Turner’s Space Ritual (featuring members of Hawkind), legendary Manchester Punk Poet ‘John Cooper Clarke’ and The Tansads new spin off band ‘Merry Hell.’
Folk fans are in for a treat with the ever popular Martin Carthy, a much anticipated return of Peggy Seeger, and a Citadel debut for BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Winner ‘Andy Cutting.’
The Blues programme features Alan Nimmo’s new blues band King King, the UK’s hottest new young Guitarist ‘Oli Brown,’ Chicago style blues band ‘The Stumble,’ Citadel blues favourites ‘Nine Below Zero’ and the rescheduled date for Chris Farlowe & The Norman Beaker Band.
Tribute bands The Smiths Ltd, The Stones and a Rock Double header from Dizzy Lizzy & AC/DC UK will perform for those who are looking for that bit of nostalgia. Regular Rubberneck events will also feature the best emerging bands.
For comedy lovers, the best in up and coming stand up will form part of ‘Your avin a laugh comedy night’ and everyone’s favourite Comedy Folk band The Lancashire Hotpots make a return.
‘Hands On’ @ The Citadel presents a performance of the children’s classic ‘Charlie & the Chocolate Factory on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th June.
As well as lots to see there are plenty of things to get involved with at The Citadel, if you are interested in drama, art, dance, big band or writing then there’s always something happening that you can join in with. And now on Wednesday’s the citi-dis-arts project gets underway with daytime arts, drama & writing, not forgetting the Citadel ‘Sing Out Choir.’ And If that’s not enough then every Saturday , Music Mecca provides FREE WORKSHOPS for under 18’s in DJ-ing, MC-ing, Scrap Band, Music Production and Street Dance.
