Countryside Walks and Trails
In a Borough that is 65% rural, there is plenty of scope for countryside recreation.
At the heart of the Mersey Forest, England’s largest community woodland, St.Helens has an abundance of scenic, tranquil countryside, trails, walks and waterways just waiting to be discovered, each with their own unique personality.

These range from the Sankey Valley and other parks, to breathtaking Carr Mill Dam and panoramic views from the summit of Billinge Hill, while neighbouring Knowsley offers two of the region’s visitor highlights at the National Wildflower Centre and Knowsley Safari Park.
Enjoy the spectacular view from the Top of Billinge Hill out across the Lancashire Plain to North Wales and the sea. Follow the Sankey Valley Nature Trail, amble around picturesque Carr Mill Dam - Merseyside's largest inland body of water, or visit one of the Borough's many Victorian parks.
