St.Helens is enjoying a cultural renaissance, symbolised by a number of key events and attractions in the borough. The delightful St.Helens Festival takes place in annually in July and a number of art galleries have been established in the borough. St.Helens Theatre Royal has a varied programme of events throughout the year, the Godfrey Pilkington Art Gallery also displays a wide range of exhibitions from visual arts, schools and other community organisations & The Citadel Arts Centre, voted by The Independent as one of the top ten jazz & blues venues in the UK has an eclectic mix of live music, comedy and theatrical performances.

A little known fact about St.Helens is that Antony Gormley's world famous 1993 Turner Prize winning work "Field for the British Isles" - a terracotta army of 35,000 mini figurines - was crafted here by local schoolchildren, parents & teachers...

The spectacular new landmark artwork titled 'Dream' by acclaimed artist Jaume Plensa, is intended to become a gateway feature for both Merseyside and Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northwest. The 20 metre high iconic sculpture takes the form of the head of a girl with eyes closed, seemingly in a dream-like state, atop Sutton Manor overlooking the M62 motorway as part of Channel 4’s Big Art Project.

This gallery hosts a number of local and regional art exhibitions, and is situated within the historic Gamble Building.

Situated within the award winning World of Glass attraction, the Level One Art Gallery showcases new and established artists from around the Merseyside region.

The performing and visual arts centre presents a wide-ranging programme of music, theatre, dance, poetry, comedy, storytelling, visual art and film events.

The Theatre Royal presents a varied programme including UK touring productions, top names from the world of comedy and entertainment, and a year-round bill of drama, dance, opera and musicals.
